Mouse vs. volcano

The Mount Pinatubo volcano mouse is endemic to the forests around Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. This became a problem when the volcano exploded in 1991 and vaporized the forests. The mouse was assumed to have been wiped out with the forests.

But was it?

That's pretty cool and it makes sense that a species endemic to the slopes of an active volcano would have a way to survive a possible eruption, otherwise it probably would have gone extinct long before this eruption.

It is incredible how resilient some of the rodent species are !
