The Mundo Marino park has just rescued a juvenile Southern Elephant Seal that was found stranded on a beach.
WAZA on Instagram: "@mundomarino.ar rescued a juvenile elephant seal! The elephant seal was found on the beaches of Costa Azul in the middle of its natural molting process, which was being interrupted by visitors on the beach. The resting period during which juvenile elephant seals shed their fur is vital for certain key physiological processes, such as increasing the blood's capacity to store oxygen. After being transferred to the Mundo Marino Foundation Rescue Center, the marine mammal underwent a thorough clinical examination and blood tests, which confirmed its good health. After two weeks of care, the young elephant seal was released back into the ocean."
