Grizzly Beach
Grizzly beach would be a new subarea, taking up the former space of the Grizzly and Black bear grottoes. The subarea would have the zoo's Grizzly Bears. The subarea has three habitats, The Meadow, The Forest, and The River. The Meadow is 3,885.85 square feet. The back of all three exhibits is made of rocks and has a barrier on top of it. The meadow has logs, trees, and large rocks for the bears to climb on. The Forest habitat is 6,761.86 square feet and has logs, trees, climbing structures, and hammocks for the bears to climb on and sleep on/in. The River habitat is 5,440.70 square feet. It has rocks, rivers, water balls, and other things for the bears to use and play with in the water.
Species: Grizzly Bear.
Seal Cove
The seal cove would be a new exhibit, taking up the former space of the Tufted Deer and Red Crowned Crane. The back of the exhibit is ground, which is made of gravel and sand. Rocks line the coast of the enclosure, with a water viewing for the guests to see the animals
Species: California Sea Lion, Harbor Seal
African Outpost Renovations
The fences separating the three exhibits will be removed, making one large exhibit. Move the flamingos and spur winged geese into this larger exhibit.
Species: Masai Giraffe, Hartmann Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, Ostrich, Chilean Flamingo, Spur-Winged Goose
Lion Exhibit
This new area will take up the current lion exhibit and the tram station (which according to plans might happen) It will have a rocky background with a glass viewing so the guests can get a good view of the lions. It will have trees for the lions to have shade, and rocks for them to climb on and relax on.
Species: African Lion
Australian Adventure Renovations
The Australian Adventure is beginning to show its age. My plan is to first turn the Matilda’s Grill, which has been closed for a while, into the new Cockatoo and Laughing Kookaburra exhibit. The Exhibit will have landing spots, vines, and plants. Improving upon their current exhibit. The Yagga Tree will go from a treehouse with a slide to a small Australian reptile house with Blue Tongued Skinks, Children’s Python, and other reptiles, in the Current Animatronic Crocodile pool will be several species of freshwater fish and turtles.
Affected Species: Sulfur Crested Cockatoo, Laughing Kookaburra, Various Reptiles
African Savanna Changes
We will begin by turning the former indoor Colobus Monkey building and former Leopard cage into a new Cheetah enclosure. This will give the Cheetahs a better enclosure and add another expansion to the African Savanna. We will next turn the Amphitheater into an exhibit for Pygmy Hippos. This exhibit will have above ground and underwater viewing for the Pygmy hippos. Next, we will turn the Flamingo Exhibit into an African Penguin Exhibit. It will have underwater viewing and will have large fish living with the Penguins. Near the vet building will be an exhibit for Aldabra Tortoises.
Species: Pygmy Hippo, Cheetah, African Penguin, Aldabra Tortoise.
Rainforest Changes
This will overview the things I wish to be added in the Primate Forest and the Rainforest renovations. First, the Lower Forest. The Dwarf Crocodile exhibit will instead have Cuvier’s Dwarf Caiman. The large empty exhibit (former cape porcupine) will be used for Asian Water Monitors. The ant and insect terrariums will be turned into three exhibits, all similar in size to the Burmese Python exhibit. These will have King Cobras, Reticulated Pythons, and Argentine Tegus. The current Gharial enclosure will instead have Cuban Crocodiles. Moving to the Upper Forest. The Research Hut exhibit will have Two Toed Sloths. Nothing will change in the Amazon room. Moving to the Carnivore room, the current Clouded Leopard exhibit will have Large Spotted Genets. The Current Green Aracari exhibit will have Moholi Bushbabies. The current Prevost’s Squirrel would have Pygmy Slow Lorises. Moving to the final area. With the Orangutans in their new exhibit, their old home will have a mix of African monkeys including Wolf's Guenons, Allen’s Swamp Monkey, and Yellow Backed Mangabeys. Next, to the Primate Forest. I would imagine then the two big new spaces are less of exhibits for one species, but rather mostly for that one species with some smaller exhibits for other animals. Starting with this “African Area.” It will obviously have the Gorillas, here it will also have a smaller exhibit for Eastern Colobus Monkeys, as well as an aviary with many tropical African Birds. Coming into a tunnel, which would be the exit of the African area into the main rainforest lobby, will have terrariums for Ball Pythons, Angolan Pythons, Rock Monitors, and Dwarf Crocodiles. Next, the Asian Area. The Main Exhibit will mix Bornean Orangutans and Siamangs. Along with that, there is an exhibit for the Clouded Leopard. The final exhibit is for Indian Crested Porcupines. Outside the building, there would be paddocks for Red River Hogs, Indian Crested Porcupines, and Bongos. There are also exhibits for Mandrills, Howler Monkeys, Spider Monkeys, and Mueller's Gibbons.
PCA
The building would become a reptile house. The first line of indoor enclosures, (Wolf’s Guenons, Golden Bellied Mangabeys would become exhibits for various species of Iguanas, the exhibits would have natural substrate, plants, backgrounds, and the rocks would be repainted to have a look close to those of the rocks from those species environments. The Nocturnal area would have large constrictors, Blood Pythons, Boa Constrictors, and Green Anacondas. The Current
Gorilla exhibits would have Komodo Dragons. The walls would be removed to make one large exhibit. The Madagascar line (Lemurs and Fossas) would be used to have desert snakes and lizards. The ground would be covered in sand and would have desert plants on the sand. It would have Rattlesnakes, chuckwallas, Bearded Dragons, and Pancake Tortoises. The South American Line (Howler Monkeys, Armadillo, Sloth) would have several large species of freshwater turtles. The Bolivian Grey Monkey exhibit would have Perrites. Entering the Aquatic area, the area will become a South American area. The large primate exhibit is demolished and will be turned into an atrium with exhibits for freshwater South American turtles, Spectacled Caiman, Three Toed Sloths, and Amazonian Birds. The Caiman exhibit will have a roof over it so the birds can’t enter it. The rest of the tanks will also have South American exhibits, The first three exhibits will stay the same as they already have South American animals but the rest will have South American lizards and snakes. Along with that, the former shark tank will have Orinoco Crocodiles in it instead. Going outside, because the Aldabras moved to the savanna, the current exhibit will be shrunken and used to have Sulcata tortoises. Moving on, the current Cheetah exhibit will be the outdoor Komodo Dragons. Moving to the outdoor primate exhibits, the African monkey outdoor exhibits will be demolished and the outdoor gorilla exhibit will become an exhibit for American Alligators and Alligator Snapping turtles. The current playground will become an area for native fish, frogs, snakes, and turtles. Finally, the Treetop Cafe will be turned into the Streamside Cafe.
That is my plan for a Cleveland Zoo overhaul. I am open to criticism and changes in my plans.
The End
