As a newbie to the world of visiting zoos, only getting bitten by the bug last year. I undertook my first ever camera visit on Friday to Blackpool Zoo. I have added some photos to the gallery and hope to add some more later. Any feedback or advice will be gratefully received.

If anyone wants any updates as well just ask and il try and remember what I saw.

I took a quick look at the first two pages of photos in the Blackpool gallery. Looks like you are off to a smashing start and have a good future as a photo enthusiast. All photos are focused squarely on the animal, except for a couple of the macaws in flight. That is to be expected as birds in flight are notoriously difficult (I tried photographing macaws in flight last week at the opening of the San Diego Zoo and every shot was blurry).

I like your giant tortoise photo best. My suggestion for trying to take better photos is very simple, but it works :) As soon as you have taken a photo, ask yourself what might make a better photo - a step forward or to one side, a higher viewpoint or a lower one, or waiting for the subject to change its pose. Then try it. When you look over your photos at leisure you can then decide whether the second photo really was better.
Happy shooting.

Cheers, I will certainly try that. I was a bit worried about the amount of photos I could take but happily I used very little of the memory so I will shoot a bit more freely in future.
