My Life Dream....

Ever since I was a little girl (I am now 17) I have always wanted to own a zoo. To say that I love animals is an under statement; I have/had fish, rodents, rabbits, birds (and chickens), a cat, and a dog (My mom says I already have a zoo ). But I want to build a real zoo. Maybe not have a lot of animals, not as big as the San Diego Zoo (although that would be cool!). I just want to help endangered animals and teach people about animals as well.

What do I need to major in? I was thinking the obvious - Zoology.

How big does my zoo need to be? Maybe I could start out small and grow as I get started in the zoo business

What do I need to do to make sure this is all legal? Zoning requirements and laws?

And lastly, is my dream too far-fetched? I know its gonna take a lot of money, but this is what I've wanted to do my whole life. Even though everyone thinks I'm crazy to believe that maybe one day I can have a zoo, but its what I want to do. I don't want to be the crazy lady charging people money to see the tiger in her backyard. I want to have a full-fledged professional zoo. How can I accomplish my dream?

I'm shure that many of us had (and maybe have) the same intention. I don't wanna kill your dream but... the chances are very, very small, espacially for that way you mentioned (= own zoo).

But with a good education (veterinary or zoologie) and a lot of luck, work and extra efforts you could get a working place in a zoo and then - after years of experience (and a good portion of luck too) - one day become a zoo executive officer/zoo director or a curator. That is not like owing a zoo because there are in - most of the cases - other people which also have a word to say by some decisions. But it is close by.

So my advice is: Try to get a foot into your local zoo by doing some usefull things like volunteering (= networking) and work hard for a good graduade in zoologie, biologie or veterinary.
