For those well-versed in the world of fish and cichlids, it will sadden you to know that Dr. Paul Loiselle, one of the most renowned cichlid experts of the modern era, and a personal hero of mine, has passed away. He was not only an expert on cichlids (particularly riverine African and Madagascar cichlids) but also the director of the New York Aquarium and an avid private aquarist. He was one of the honorary heads of the North Jersey Aquarium Society as well as the former co-chair of the IUCN's Madagascar Region Freshwater Fish Specialty Group and the representative of the New York Aquarium's seat on the AZA's Freshwater Fish Advisory Taxa Group.
I had the honor to meet Dr. Paul and he was an absolute delight, with a ton of knowledge about fish. I, and many others, will sorely miss him and his contributions.
