Blackpool Zoo My trip to Blackpool Zoo

I thought I would just leave a quick post with my thoughts about Blackpool zoo after my visit yesturday.

We went to blackpool as a family day out, however when we got there I was quite disapointed that you had to buy a map on top of the entrance price.

The entrance to the zoo was very grand, and was very impressive walking into the zoo. As we walked through to buy the tickets the lady on the till didn't talk to us, just waited for us to tell her how many tickets we wanted then didn't even tell us the price just wacked the card mashine infrom of us.

When we got into the zoo I thought the enclosure for the tortoises was a good size for the amount and size of tortoises there.

As we walked through the zoo there was the dino land we had a quick walk through, but I was not impressed with the attraction, and I felt the space could of been better used as to give more space to current animals or even allow the zoo to expand the collection of animals they keep.

Even though the all the species of monkey's were friendly and seemed to be happy I felt the enclosures were very small for how many monkey's most enclosures held.

I enjoyed seeing the orang-utans and the gorilla's and felt the outside space was good but the inside space looked really crampt for the size and amount of animals it hosues.

The Reptile house I was really disapointed with, as one of my favourite parts to a zoo. I just felt that the zoo were trying to save space and fit as many species of reptile in as they could mixing diffrent types of snakes etc.

The Inside of the elephant house was plenty big enough for the amount of elephants there, however the outside enclosure seemed very small with very little to keep the elephants ammused.

The Girfaffe house was defiently not a good size to house 6 (I think) giraffes.

My favourite part of the zoo was the sealion pool, the water was very clean and had space to house a lot of sealions and they seemed happy playing with the things they had in the pool.

I liked the Lion enclosure, and the way it housed so many lions, it seemed very natural to have a couple of adult females with 1 adult male and some cubs. However I did think the lions should have a shaded area within there enclosure.

The indoor areas to both the lions and the tigers were quite dissapointing.

Overall the family had a good day, for the size of the zoo and the time it took us to look around, I felt it was a bit over priced. We walked round once then went back to the animals we liked and we had finsished at 1.30.

Ok maybe it was'nt a quick note.

Thanks Miss Piggy

I also recently visited Blackpool Zoo (and posted a rather large review). Whilst i do agree with most of your negative views (giraffes, apes, elephants, reptiles). I cant say i agree with you regarding the zoos monkeys though, most to me seemed to be in good enclosures, though perhaps some of the exhibits in the Small Primate House werent of great quality.

Blackpool does however have several good qualities and several enclosures of a great quality. In particular the Amazonia enclosure, which in my opinion put the new(ish) South American enclosure at London and Bristol to shame.
