Marwell Wildlife Name the hippo!

Taun - As I said, this is so there is a free pool for the calf once she is too old to stay with Wendy. Infact fairly recentley the older calf, Sirana, had teeth marks from where Wendy had been biting her due to agression, showing she needed to be moved to the third pool before her age allowed even more solitary instincts kick in from her mother. Marwell's only got three pools per hippo, and the move to Bristol allows the circuit to continue like this as well as being able to breed from Sirana.

Hang on, I asked was she moved to bristol for breeding or because bristol had spare room which means more room for marwells current hippos.

I think Bristol has two. I think one probably died if they're taking on another, they don't have room for any more than two!
I've never seen the two hippos at Bristol together actually, they've always been seperated. Have they ever bred them?

They had two in the summer and they were also seperated when I saw them there.

I have also voted for Kadina. Sounds like a nice little hippo name, it may have just been me but they usually have meanings of the names in votes like this or do I miss it?

from the site:
Her keepers have already short listed four names after places in the pygmy hippo native home in west Africa.
The names to choose from are:
* Loko
Port Loko is the capital and largest city of Port Loko District, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. Port Loko lies on Port Loko Creek, which flows into the Sierra Leone river.
* Kadina
Kadina is a city in eastern Sierra Leone.
* Zimmi
Zimmi is a town located in southern Sierra Leone.
* Lola
Lola is a town in the Forest Region of Guinea. It is located near Mount Nimba, the highest peak in the nation. It is known for traditional medicine, cloth manufacture and is also home to the African grey parrot.

Well, that explains a lot! Probably from a different section and didn't know much about it, or I just need to hear better!
So, do you work with the hippos on west section?

And 53% majority on Lola, quite a lot. There are no oryx club meetings in December, however I will be visiting the zoo anyway in the christmas holidays, so I can update on Lola's progress in my Monthly updates thread then.

Lola is quite a nice name, good job to anyone who voted the winning name, or at all for that matter. :)
