Nashville Zoo Nashville Zoo mourns the loss of African Elephant Kiba

This is the last zoo I would expect an elephant death from. Very sad news. There sure have been a lot of elephant deaths this year.
 
Sounds like she got excellent care at Nashville and had an excellent quality of life her last 13 years. Now, Nashville Zoo will have to endure an onslaught of criticism from PETA. I hope they have a strong director and a strong membership.
 
Her joint disease was from injury according to the press release, not captive induced. I am sure the IDA will find a way to make it sound like she was ailing because of living in the zoo.
 
Yeah, I saw. They will make an issue out of it for sure. They did when Affie at Brookfield died. But, the director spoke out against the criticisms and he rallied their members for their support (Brookfield has a huge membership) and the criticism died out rather quickly. NZ is in the same state as Hohenwald so maybe they have a different relationship? Maybe they share vets? IDK.
