Is it now just a 'one-way' system around the park or is that a suggested direction?

I think its just a suggest route so that visitors see all exhibits..

Most zoo and theme park maps do seem to be orientated with the entry at the bottom, although I've noticed that venues on "hills", with their entrance on the top of the slope, are orientated the opposite way. Taronga's map for example has its entrance at the top of its map.
