Does anyone know about what changes have been made to the African Savannah at Dublin Zoo.

The New African Savannah, according to the website has been opened. The grass appears to have been removed and replaced by sand - surely the zebras would rather have a grassed paddock?

Also, i didn't realise that scimitar - horned oryx were found in the same areas as giraffes and grants zebras - would gemsbok or impala or lechwe be more appropriate for this exhibit.

Moreover, there was no mention of the white rhinos. I thought that the plan was to mix the rhinos with the rest.

The rhino's were mixed, but have been temporarily separated due to the accidental killing of a zebra.

I have two questions regarding the rhinos and the Savannah project:
1) If the Savannah project is a mix inclusive of the white rhinos, what will happen to their current housing to the north of the path angling past the Savannah?
2) It seems Dublin is a rhino less after the birth of the young female last year (2.4 on ISIS instead of the former 2.5). Any animal deceased or taken out?

KB, The former rhino enclosure is being converted into a new enclosure for the gorillas

new area

The oldest Rhino died from cancer a couple of months ago,she was a female.also the Rhino go under ground to there new area, they still have there small sand yard and there nite house is still there, plans ar also to move the oryx out and be replaced with something eles

Will the scimitars remain part of the collection or be transferred to another zoo or safari park establishment?
