Instant Wild app and website to revolutionise conservation

Wild animals living in unexplored forests are being captured on hidden cameras for a unique experimental iPhone app and website.

Launching today (November 14th), the Zoological Society of London’s (ZSL) Instant WILD app and website hopes to revolutionise the way conservationists monitor remote wildlife hotspots around the world.

Motion sensitive cameras have already been set up by forest clearings, watering holes and plains in Kenya, Sri Lanka and Mongolia.

Images triggered by wild animals walking past are sent straight to the app in real-time – meaning users can get a rare glimpse into the lives of lions, elephants or wild dogs on their commute home...

Great. Another iPhone-only app from ZSL London. That's really helpful to the ~100,000,000 Android users out there.
 
I ask sincerely because I don't know, but do these types of things have real conservation value or are they a gimmick for app-developers and tech companies to get publicity for their products?

I don't know either, but I've a horrible feeling that I could guess at an answer...
 
I think at the very least it raises awareness. I've downloaded it. It's a fun little app.
 
I guess any sort of awareness is good, even if its intention wasn't! But i'm sure if the guys at ZSL created the app' they did it for a good cause - besides you don't get any money from making a free iPhone app! (maybe from the adverts). Is there an iPhone app for ZooChat? Someone really needs to make one!

ZSL London Zoo's app is the perfect guide for your day at the zoo and beyond – and it’s free!

Before you get to the zoo use the app to buy tickets, get directions and plan your visit. Once here you can use the “What’s on” section to find out about daily animal talks and events.

A GPS enabled interactive map shows you where you are in the zoo, what animals and facilities are near you, it even shows you walking around.

It can also be used as a pocket animal encyclopaedia with amazing animal facts, images and videos.
