Scientists in Australia have found that by adding trace amounts of salt to freshwater ponds, the transmission of chytrid fungus can be blocked. In a study on the green-and-golden bell frog, there was a 70% increased survival rate where the frogs were translocated to habitats where small amounts of salt were added to the water.
There are now plans to test the salt treatment further in Ecuador, where habitat is being constructed for a translocation for the Riobamba marsupial frog.
