Aquarium to reconnect to sea - The Boston Globe

The New England Aquarium, which faced financial difficulties earlier this decade and scrapped its original expansion plans, is expanding around its back for a new pinniped exhibit for Northern Fur Seals and later California Sea Lions. The expansion is supposed to also help make the aquarium building exterior more appealing...from its concrete box look.

From what I have heard the aquarium definitely needs an expensive makeover, and it's great to see the plans finally coming together.

I believe they are keeping fur seals. Someone at Mystic Aquarium told me that one of their fur seals may end at NE aquarium as well. I don't know why they would add harbor seals to the new expansion because they have a fairly new exhibit in the front of the aquarium and is a favorite for locals and visitors (It is outside the aquarium so you do not have to pay to see the harbor seals and supposedly is a favorite place for locals to eat lunch).
