Sha from Adelaide was immediately keen, while Zinder from Germany let his nerves get the better of him.
But Taronga Zoo breeders had high hopes of the pair hitting it off.
The rare fennec foxes were set up by zoo staff to create a new genetic bloodline in the Australasian breeding program for this small canine species.
As with any blind date, it took them a while to warm to each other.
