New initiative to combat global wildlife trade

President Obama is launching a new effort to fight the global wildlife trade, with special emphasis on combating elephant and rhino poaching.

Obama to launch major wildlife trafficking initiative in Africa

This is big news. If some clever environmentalist had 'found' evidence years ago that the profits from poaching were used to fund terrorism, America may have acted earlier. In this case, it is literally true that "better late than never". I really hope that it's not just talk.

Speaking of talk, the last paragraph is also great news: the president of China and America are talking about curbing China's demand for poached animals.

nanoboy, I sadly alas have to fully agree. Late in the day, but better late than never. However, 10mio to me is thin ice on the platter ... This poaching challenge and the illegal trade that comes with it needs a far greater investment on the scale that countries combat drugs trade. Literally we are dealing with organised crime here, something all these big money spenders seem to forget still.
