Hi. I am a new member of Zoo Chat and look forward to a long and interesting association with the site.
My main interest is Whipsnade Zoo. I live about 16 miles from the zoo and I have been a frequent visitor over the years, since a child myself, then with my children and now with my grandchildren. The zoo also played a significant role during the treatment and subsequent recovery of my wife from cancer. Our drives around the park and picnic lunches in the car overlooking the Downs were a great treat for us both during this difficult time.
As my interest in the history of the zoo has increased, I have been trying to accumulate old copies of the Zoo guide. I have been unable to find a definitive list of how many editions of the guide have been published since the early 1930s. Can anyone help me out? Also, if any Zoo Chat members have any old Whipsnade Zoo guides that they wish to dispose of I would be pleased to hear from them.

I recommend you have a look at the list located on the following site, which has been compiled by the Bartlett Society - an organisation which focuses on the history of zoological collections and the collection of guidebooks for said.

You will note that the list even includes variant versions of given editions.

Thanks for the welcome. My wife and I had a great day at Whipsnade yesterday with our two grandsons, ages 3 and 1. Cold and windy but fortunately not wet. Our daughter-in-law was not sure if she had been to the zoo before, so it was a real treat for us all. We are members of ZSL so £3 ($5) to take our car into the zoo at this time of year was a real bargain.

I hope you take plenty of photos for those of us who don't get the chance to get to whipsnade.
Also ebay is a good place to find zoo related brochures and second hand shops in your local may also turn up a few old copies.
