I'm going to chester zoo on sunday to check the new ottter and babirusa exhibit at the back of RoRA. I'll take loads of photos and give everyone the low down after my visit. Also dose any1 want me to find anything out about anything? :)

I would love to know whether the anoa will eventually be moved to a similar location (in the vicinity of the babirusa exhibit by the side of RoRa).

O.8 Asian short-clawed Otters transferred to RoRA today, they are now on the Primate Section. Also one of the bush dogs has given birth.

Im sure that i read somewhere that there was just going to be a breeding pair of otters in RORA sure it was in a recent email from the zoo. Are the bush dogs going to be eventually moved into the pudu enclosure? Also what has happened to the pudu?

I think otters are going into the orang enclosure (judging by the new information panels by the waterfall) so perhaps this will be the pair?

Will they be ok, with the orangs and gibbons? any idea on what is going to happen to the old otter enclosure?

The Otters will have access to the Orangutan & Gibbon enclosure via a special gate in the fence. Therefore the 0.8 that moved over there would be the only ones you are going to see.

The female otter group is going in with the Sumatran Orang Utans opposite the aquarium,

A new pair of otters will be living with the babirusa, this is to be the breeding pair.

The Bush Dogs will move back to their old enclosure eventually and the pudu are supposed to be going into the spider monkey enclosure.

This would mean that the two enclosures would not be connected which contradicts the information on the poster at the zoo.

Are the dikdiks still due to go in the round enclosure by the kangaroos when this is vacated?

Lee, you've obviously never seen a dik-dik. They're tiny.

The last I heard the round enclosure was allocated for a mongoose species, I don't know which one, but Zoogiraffe said some new mongoose species were due to arrive, so we'll have to wait and see.

No I hav'nt my apoligies, The zoo already has three mongoose species with the Yellow, Banded and Dwarf mongoose already at the zoo. Any ideas what the new species may be?

Just a correction, but they have 4 mongoose species - the three you mentioned and meerkats

How long have Chester had Dwarf Mongoose and where are they kept? It's so long since I last went to Chester, I've stuggled to keep up with changes.

If I can try to straighten things out in my mind until I next visit:

The bush dogs are still in the enclosure near the lions that once held pudu and mara, and opposite that are the serval in what was once the old cheetah enclosure? Then there is the little round enclosure near the kangaroos that is being debated. (dik dik, or mongoose or whatever?) Have the babirusa been kept behind the okapis near the giraffe until the RotRA exhibit was ready?

The Dwarf mongoose are in one of the old children's zoo enclosures

the bush dogs are in the round enclosure by the kangaroos, the serval are in the enclosure close to the waterbus jetty (that once held cheetahs) and the pudu are in the enclosure next to the old kea aviary and held the bush dogs.

the babirusa have been behind the giraffe house since the warty pigs arrived

Ah thankyou, I forgot that the Bush Dogs were back in the round one, but I seem to think that Rob has mentioned before. I think the current pudu one is probably much better for the dogs, it'll be good when they go back (not to mention interesting to see pudu and spider monkeys exhibited together).

Just to clear a few things up the species of Mongoose that i knew was arriving was the Dwarf Mongoose, they turned up alot quicker than i expected.I do know that the zoo has mentioned bringing in other species about 5 years ago i was told they were looking at bringing in White-tailed Mongoose.

Slightly off the original topic , but the Round Enclosure has been mentioned as housing the bush-dogs . As part of the Anniversary exhibition there is a map of the zoo in 1949 . The Round Enclosure was already there , housing Malayan sun bears - I vaguely remember them . The paddocks that now have the kangaroos housed dingo and husky . Although modified , the Lion Enclosure is still there and the Sea-Lion Pool semms to be in the same position .
