The California Living Museum in Bakersfield, California (USA) has just opened a new exhibit for mountain lions and bobcats. Although I have never been to this facility, it is apparently a small zoo for native animals. (Similar to my local Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, but not nearly as nice from what I have seen online).

Anyway, this new exhibit should do a lot to improve their grounds. Here is the article link:

Has anyone on ZooChat visited this place? It is not AZA-accredited, which always makes me a bit suspicious, but it prominently displays the ZAA logo on its website and the new puma/bobcat exhibit looks quite impressive.

I went there a couple of weeks ago and the new cat exhibits are very nice. Very large and nicely landscaped. There were 2 mountain lions and 3 bobcats. The only thing I didn't like was that the keepers went in with the cats .. Not a big deal for the bobcats, but I didn't like seeing them in with the mountain lions. They did'n't stay in the exhibits long, just to clean the windows in the bobcat exhibit and to check on where the mountain lions were.

The CALM has modeled itself after the Living Desert in Palm Desert and hopes to one day become AZA accredited, but it needs money to meet some of the requirements.

It also has 4 species of foxes. It's a small zoo but is worth visit if you are in the area.
