Hi There! In a few days, my significant other and I will find ourselves in Borneo in the company of Dr.Birute Galdikas at the orangutan rehab facility in Tanjung Putang. Has anyone here had the opportunity to visit the orangutan rehab center? Are there any Pongid lovers out there?

I'm a parrot lover, but welcome to the site anyway!

Thank you! I took a picture similar to yours with my significant other holding that magnificent bird at the San Diego Zoo. How long have you had your Cockatoo? I'm Pete. I love watching birds. I live in my own little bird sanctuary just outside Cincinnati.
Nice to meet you.

Hi Tree Hugger,

Welcome to Zoochat. I don't know if anyone here has been to the orang rehab center, but several people have been to Borneo so likely they have.

zooman has been to Borneo recently and I know saw some orangs. Orange Person is an orangutan enthusiast - she travels a lot, so might have been to Borneo. Chlidonias has been to Borneo - you can read about it in his thread Chlidonias Does Asia (I think the first trip - he is in the middle of his third trip and is currently in China). You can use the private message system here to send them messages if you are interested and hopefully they can give you some useful tips).

I would love to go to Borneo someday. I'm sure that several people here would be interested in hearing about how your trip goes.

Hello Pete, nice to meet you too. The Cockatoo (a Triton called Chucky) is not mine I'm afraid, it is one of the stars of the Feathered Feats bird show at Paignton Zoo where I am friends with the show's presenter. It took a fancy to me on my recent holiday and kept flying to me during the shows on my final day at the zoo. In previous years it had not bothered with me at all. I do have two parrots of my own - a Senegal I have had for 13 1/2 years and a Double Yellow-headed Amazon I have had for two. The latter was purchased from a member of this site, who is also a presenter working for the same company as my friend at Paignton.

Hi Dave, I would be happy to share our adventures in Malaysia. Cheryl and I only have a few days left before we embark on our adventure. We stay in Singapore for a couple days and then off to the Sepilok Nature Preserve.
We spend a week or so there, and then we leave for Bali. I hope to take lots of photos and share some of them with you when we return.

The Paignton Zoo sounds like a wonderful place. I would like to visit Kew Botanical Gardens sometime too. So many places to go. I'll let you know what avian treasures I come across in Borneo, Andrew.

Thank-you, I'll look forward to it. Have a good trip!
