Moose, American Bison, Harbour Seal and various unspecified smaller species are now planned for the zoo as part of their new masterplan marking their 100 year anniversary. Other plans include new amenities and a bird aviary: Watertown’s Zoo New York unveils 10-year master plan
On June 23rd, it was reported that on Saturday the 26th, the zoo will be holding a public meeting about what will be included in the master plan.

Zoo New York unveils master plan
It’s hoping to convert one of its current buildings into a freshwater aquarium and redesign guest services into a more accessible welcome center.
It’s one part of a multi-phase master plan the zoo unveiled Wednesday afternoon.
Sorel says the zoo is looking to complete the plans in four phases over the course of the next 10 to 15 years.
Included in the plan are an adventure park that would become its own separate attraction, a walk-through aviary, and sections of the zoo that would help paint a picture of the wildlife found in each region of the state, from the Adirondacks to the Finger Lakes and Long Island.

The Watertown zoo announced the death of Keenai, who had lived there for nearly 13 years.
The preliminary cause of death is age-related kidney failure.
Keenai was 14 years and 8 months old and has been receiving pain management medication. On average, gray wolves in the wild live for six to eight years.
Keenai and his lifelong mate, Kaja, have littered 30 pups, one of which, Luna, lives at the zoo. Other pups are at various zoos across the country.
