Visited yesterday and found that Nancy was guarding a nest again, hopefully she will here the patter of tiny feet again,as its been a long time since the last time she had young. For those of you who don`t know who Nancy is she lives with Albert and they are the only breeding pair of American Alligators in the U.K:):D:cool::):):)

Good news about the alligators.
Where are the snow leopards housed at Welsh Mountain ? Are they in the old Leopard enclosures ? We are planning to visit soon.
Are there any new species at Welsh Mountain ?

Thanks zoogiraffe. Was there anything else of particular interest happening? New reptile house wise perhaps?

Nothing of note springs to mind for other news at the zoo,as for the Snow Leopards they are in the old Leopard enclosures only saw one but the other house was blocked off so may be they have young but that is just a guess. Also they mat be going out of Golden Eagles and getting White-tailed Sea Eagles insted.

Just to add to ZooGiraffe's thread:

Construction is going on in the space between the gator house and spider monkey enclosure for a new meerkat enclosure (how many zoos don't keep these now? Edinburgh?).

Theres a sign up by the porcupine enclosure saying they will be moving to the new meerkat enclosure (either that or they will by moving to the area next to the new enclosure)

(and to add to the opening post, the nest is still in tact and the boards are up to give some privacy to the female. The bull gator was keeping his distance)

Cant say im suprised about the Meerkats, it was only a matter of time. Im also quite pleased the zoo is bringing in a new species, the last one was probably the Snow Leopards!
Good to hear a new enclosure for the Porcupines is on the cards.

yes to verreaux's,
I enjoyed my recent trip to welsh mountain was a sunny day, but found the place much better than i had expected having read comments here on zoochat previously.

Welsh Mountain Zoo seems to be a place of many things. The Crocodile pool looks really good along with the European Brown Bear and the Sumatran Tiger enclosure.
I would love to visit it one day :)
