The 62-page document on the link below (current as of Aug. 2012) is one that I've been using on a regular basis for the past couple of years. It has helped me determine what facilities to visit this summer when I embark on a solo trip to 54 zoos/aquariums in 20 days. A new record! Many of the establishments are fairly small and that is why visiting 3 zoos per day is not an issue. Feel free to use this wonderful resource:

That's a great document, thanks for sharing. Two things I noticed that are out of date, just for gee-whiz information...southern Nevada zoological park is closed and Roos n more is currently closed while they become ADA compliant.

54 zoos and aquariums? I look forward to hearing about that trip. :)

Great resource, although just skimming the first couple pages I have already found some redundancies. In California, the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound is listed twice under two different facility names. Same is true for Shambala Preserve. In Arizona, an organization that is likely not a valid entity (Desert Waters) is listed with the same address as the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum.

Still a really good resource and it is intriguing to see that Michigan State University (who created the document) has a zoo and aquarium science department.

Ok, I am getting nitpicky, but this one is completely ridiculous. In New Mexico they are listing Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. A NWR in a listing of zoos? Really?

This is great - thanks!

I was especially taken by the stated aims of the Safari Zoological Park in Caney, Kansas: "Our mission is to show the awesomeness of our God in the individual wonder and uniqueness of all His creation. That He has revealed to us through nature and creation that we are more than an evolved matter over millions of years, but made fearfully and wonderfully in His image, with an eternal soul. That through the will of free choice man brought sin into the world, but by the love of God he redeemed man back to himself through the life, death, and resurrection of His son Jesus Christ."

It beats the old quartet of conservation, education, research and recreation!

I personally found the choice of the adjective 'awesomeness' intriguing.
Anyway, I again look forward to hearing about your adventures Snowleopard, it has been a few years since the last road trip, and I am sure many of our newer members will enjoy this one, as I have enjoyed the previous ones. :)

I too enjoyed that rather innovative abstract noun!

(The English teacher in me needs to point out that 'awesome' would be the adjective....)

Snowleopard, are you able to give us any hints to what zoos you will be visiting this summer? Maybe a list of states and how many zoos in that state?
