North American Dhole Population

Yes they are the last holders. I think we are close to hitting dead end. In the Wilds, only 2 brothers is living with their sister(I saw this in Zoo Granby thread) Then, there wont be any in the US. I think that Granby would be the last in NA to house them.
Such a shame to hear that. This is one of those species I've not yet seen but have kept track since there were still five or six holders, so watching those numbers go down has been an utter shame. Bronx is already jumping higher on my list so hopefully may see them there.

If you want to see a group of dholes, you can come to Granby. Then visit like Toronto zoo and other zoos to see other animals.

The US populations has 3 founders in 1.3 individuals from the onset. The male John from Howletts bred with the 2 Twycross females (where 1 had the majority of cubs and the other just the one offspring). The third female acquired at Metro Toronto Zoo never seems to have reproduced.

The Zoo Granby announced that one of its female dholes was euthanized due to respiratory problems. The Zoo discovered that there was a cancerous cell near the lungs. The Zoo made the decision to euthanize her to end her suffering. But the Zoo didn't announce who the dhole that passed away was, so we do not know. The group is now down to 2.4 individuals.
Here is the reply in the comments from the Zoo(Translated)
You are correct: the dhole pack previously consisted of seven individuals, two males and five females. During a routine checkup, one of the females, who was showing signs of respiratory problems, was examined more closely. A large cancerous mass near her lungs was unfortunately detected. To avoid unnecessary suffering and respect her well-being, our veterinary team made the difficult decision to euthanize her. Thank you for your interest and concern for our animals.

I can confirm that Berezi, the female dhole, was the one who passed away at the Zoo Granby. The Zoo Granby recently posted a video about International Dhole Day and the zoo said that she passed away in winter 2024.
