I used to have more respect for this place, but they looked so horribly run-down last time I was there (July 2009). My lady and I also saw way too much pacing behavior on the part of the big cats for our peace of mind.
I wasn't too thrilled with how they were handling (or not) their raptors, either. Raptors in a zoo really need at least a couple of full-time people, and they need to be flown regularly for both exercise and keeping their morale and hunting instincts sharp.
No sign of such at all. The poor female Harris hawk I saw was acting downright neurotic. Don't even get me started on the owls.
The place has potential, but it needs a LOT of work and TLC to bring it back anywhere near where it was before the hurricanes.
