Not strictly a zoo but a horrible story

DOZENS of animals have died after intruders left a trail of devastation at a popular family zoo on the outskirts of Lowestoft.

Animals are also still missing following the attack on the Pets Corner attraction next to Nicholas Everitt Park, in Oulton Broad.

Unfortunately the only link to there website doesnt work, apparently as well as pets they had monkeys, lemurs, snakes and birds!

I have been to Oulton Broads many times but never visited!

Has anyone?

Argh makes you sick. And with our justice system they'll get a slap on the wrist and if we're lucky a few days inside.

You're optimistic! They *might* fine the parents/criminals, but knowing this country, they won't do anything that actually teaches these (insert PC word) that this is wrong and to never do it again. I'd love to see 'em fined, given a long prison sentence and banned from keeping animals for life (and banned from working on farms and in zoos, vets, sanctuaries etc, but then people are going to call me an extremist...)

You shouldn't do that sort of thing to people, so why do it to animals :mad:
 
I couldn't agree more with the last two posts, having recently had experience of the British justice system (A scheme in which everyone has rights except innocent, law-abiding people).

A suspious caller turned up at my house in December, saying he was collecting for the Red Cross. The police called and asked me for a statement in March.

A neighbour of mine was the victim of attempted fraud last year. The suspect has been charged and has pleaded not guilty despite overwhelming proof that he committed the offence. On the night of his arrest the victim of the crime's son had his car stolen and set on fire. Three weeks ago the victim's son had his car windows smashed and a friend who knows both the victim's son and the accused (he has now broken that friendship) had his mother's car windows smashed.

The police refused to question the suspect stating that it would amount to harrassment (even though apparently vandalising witnesses property isn't).

The courts continually allow the accused to miss hearings and now say the case may not go to trial because the stress is making the accused ill. Well, hard luck him!

Meanwhile Stoke-on-Trent police can find the time to send a car and two officers to question two teenagers playing a harmless ball game in the street, it's called anti-social behaviour apparently.
 
How utterly vile and pointless. I hope the nasty little (bleeps) who did this are found and punished though like the rest of you I don't hold out a lot of hope.

Maybe if they were tortured and terrified for a few hours they might think twice before doing it again ........

Bongorob, unfortunately, I think you'll find that a great many ordinary police officers feel equally frustrated and impotent (in the sense of being helpless or useless) by the constraints placed upon them by the powers-that-be when it comes to how crime is investigated (or prevented) and how they feel kicked in the teeth when all their hard work comes to nothing when cases get to court and serious criminals are sent off with not much more than a flea in their ear. Then again, I'm increasingly reading lately that judges and magistrates are also sick of sentencing restrictions (due to lack of prison space as much as bleeding heart liberalism). This is a debate which could go on and on, but it really does make you despair ..........
 
Whatever happened to capital punishment lol. I'm sure that if they said "don't do this or we will actually kill you" a hell of a lot less crimes would be committed.
 
I think it would help though, to me a person who (for example) sexually abuses a child and then kills it should either be killed or left to rot in jail, whereas in the UK nowadays they'd be free in 20 years.
Just an example, I don't want to start another debate thread with this :p
 
I have been to the Pets Corner mentioned. A very good establishment not only for children but adults as well. Certainly there were more adults than children there the afternoon we went. I am disgusted at this cruelty, so unnecessary just vandalism by the dregs of humanity. If they are caught, which I doubt, their barrister will tell the magistrate about all their social problems etc and they will be let off with a smack hand and don't do it again. The minimun sentence for this should be 5 years with no remission. I am ashamed that human beings do this sort of thing.

That is very sickening, the thing that bothers me is what have these people gained from it? Murdering animals... The only thing they must get is a small kick out of it and then its over, makes no sense to me. It will be lucky if they even catch them as the article doesnt mention any CCTV images but my thoughts are with the owners right now, its very distressing to lose animals close to you in such a way.

Many thanks "Karenzoo", that does ring a bell , we certainly did visit Oulton Broads. At the time the collection was , I believe , fairly new and quite small. I would have loved to go back as it developed later on , but never did. I would be interested to know more about what species they had. It is a great shame about the mindless vandalism and cruelty , though sadly it seems to be happening more and more these days , to animals in particular , the attack on Dudley Zoos Wallabys was a prime example.

This sickens me too, hate animal cruelty, those villains deserve a long prison sentence and no remission.!
