November Zoo Bond Issues on Ballot

It seems that next week's election will reveal the future of a number of US facilities with bond issues being presented to the voters. If passed, any one of them will - it is hoped - provide substantial new funds for zoo growth:

The election seems as if it has overpowered the chaotic financial environment once again, and now that there are 8 more days until a successor to the ugly reign of "Dubya" I am intrigued to see how the next President will be able to deal with the Wall Street meltdown, Iraq, Afghanistan, global warming and even zoo bonds. It appears that the bonds at the separate zoos will go ahead as the majority of citizens don't seem to mind shelling out a few extra bucks a year...but in this climate of uncertainity who knows for sure what will happen?

The Oregon Zoo's 7 elephants will go from 1.5 acres to 6 acres if the bond goes through, while the polar bears will have their god-awful "concrete bowl" substantially renovated.

$125 million for the Oregon Zoo!! Yes we can!! It will be intriguing to see if the 100-acre elephant reserve also becomes a reality in the near future, as the proposal is to have it about 45 minutes from the zoo.
