Off show animals

Many zoos have off show animals that may be in transit, or in quarantine, or for breeding purposes.

What is the most unusual species kept behind the scenes that for some reason the public dont see?

No need for any cute remarks along the line of " I know a secret but so and so doesn't want me to say" that is just pointless.

My favourite area from the early days of Marwell was the walled garden where they kept the quarantine animals. Very often there was something good, from Wombats to Clouded Leopards.

I saw my first Asian Lions in that walled garden at Marwell in 1978 (even if they were later found to be impure!), which was totally unexpected. I also remember a Persian leopard in that area on that first visit.
