Operation Nest egg

This is a project that is sponsored by the bank of NZ ( and probably others also ) which got into the news on TV last night .
It was designed to try and assist the kiwi population to grow , without all of the kiwis ending up in zoos or wildlife parks .
The main idea ( in a bird shell ) is to rescue kiwi eggs in the wild and place them with responsible breeding institutes to hatch .
When the eggs hatch , the kiwis are looked after until they reach a certain weight , and then are released back into the wild .
Kiwis main enemies are stoats and dogs .
Anyway ..... early on Sunday morning , egg number 1000 successfully hatched at a Rotorua kiwi centre !
It was on "Close Up" if one of my fellow NZers ( Kiwis !! ) can find an online link of the programme

Yes I read about that, it was on the front page of the Herald...

Great work by some dedicated people...

I know 150 of the chicks came/were reared at the Auckland Zoo, anybody know where else..?
