Karl, male, born 1960 in Borneo. Came to Apenheul in 1999 from Rotterdam Zoo, and lived before in Frankfurt Zoo. Karl is the alpha-male in Apenheul, and one of the oldest orangutans in Europe.
Amos, male, born in 2000 in Usti nad Lebem. Parents: ? Came to Apenheul in the Summer of 2008. Is the intended successor to Karl.
Willie, male, born April 17, 2002 in Apenheul. Parents: Karl and Radja. Named after Willie Smits, founder of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation.
Radja, female, born in 1963 in Borneo (?). Came to Apenheul in 1999 from Rotterdam Zoo. In March 2006 she gave birth to her 10th child: Merah.
Sylvia, female, born 1966 in Borneo (?). Came to Apenheul in 1999 from Rotterdam Zoo.
Sandakan (Sandy), female, born in 1982 in Jersey Zoo. Came from Barcelona Zoo to Apenheul in 1999. Mother of Samboja and fostered Dayang. Favorite hobby: demolishing her exhibit.
Josje, female, born in September 1992 in Rotterdam Zoo. Parents: ? Came to Apenheul in 2001. She likes Amos very much.
Wattana, female, born in 1995 in Antwerp Zoo. Mother: Fientje. Was handraised in Antwerp Zoo. Came from Paris Zoo to Apenheul in the Summer of 2008.
Katja, female, born May 17, 1997 in Rotterdam. Parents: Karl and Radja. Came to Apenheul in 1999 from Rotterdam Zoo.
Binti, female, born December 11, 2000 in Antwerp Zoo. Mother: Fientje. Was handraised, and came to Apenheul in 2003. She had a brain haemorrhage in 2004, but recovered almost completely.
Samboja, female, born June 7, 2005 in Apenheul. Parents: Karl and Sandakan.
Dayang, female, born December 1, 2005 in Apenheul. Parents: Karl and Fientje. Was fostered by Sandy because her mother didn’t know how to feed a baby. (Fientje died later).
Merah, female, born March 2006 in apenheul. Parents: Karl and Radja.

The exhibit:
The mainbuilding has four sections. Each section has access to the other sections, and from each section the animals have access to the islands. By opening or closing some doors the keepers can separate some animals or bring them together. Karl and Amos dislike each other, so they will not spend the day in the same room! The apes have not fixed rooms, so you never knows where to find your favorite one!
For the public there are two covered viewing points, and they are also allowed to enter the main building.
The picture is 135 meters from left to right.
