Does anyone know for sure where Port Lympne's original African Hunting Dogs came from?

I think they started with a pair from Marwell - in 1979 they had 2.1 Hunting Dogs, of which 1.1 were on loan from Marwell (they were referred to as the "old pair")

Thankyou. The 'old pair' could have been Marwell's original pair(probably brother/sister) which came from Whipsnade. This pair bred a litter of puppies but if I remember correctly the female underwent a caesarean/hysterectomy and wouldn't have been able to breed again after that. So maybe PL also later sourced additional females from elsewhere before they could start breeding them?

I vaguely remember an old copy of IZN, that had an annual report for the national zoo of South Africa, in which it made mention of exporting hunting dogs from one of their breeding centres to Howletts.

Thanks. I have a feeling PL/Howletts imported some too, they certainly couldn't have bred from the original Marwell female if that's the one they had, for the reason stated above. (I don't know what happened to Marwell's other Huntings Dogs...)
