The Ornate hawk-eagle seems to be a disappearing species in captivity. In the 70-ties - 80-ties Oklahoma Zoo seems to have had 2 pairs of them and even bred the ( word first breeding ? ) and later I myself took care for a breeding-pair at Walsrode birdpark in germany at the en of the 80-ties and some chicks have been hand-raised there.
At the moment I'm only aware of 1 collection keeping this species ( Dallas
World Aquarium ) but don't know how many they have.
Also I would be intrested to learn what happened with the birds at Oklahoma and if there are more collections ( both public and privat ) which are kepping this beautiful bird !
 
As of 2010 both Dallas World Aquarium and Dallas Zoo had at least one Ornate-Hawk Eagle, as I toured those establishments that summer. I'm not sure if they both still have that species, but Dallas Zoo also had a rarely exhibited African Fishing Eagle at the same time. Dallas World Aquarium listed a Guiana Crested Eagle and a Black-and-White Hawk Eagle in its extensive guidebook.
 
a handful of zoos within its native range have it and there are also some in private ownership (e.g., El Huayco in Peru has bred it). Particularly notable is Sao Paulo Zoo, which has produced 7 young since 2005, the latest in August 2012. In addition to zoos outside its native range that already have been mentioned in previous posts, how about San Diego? They still had it - at least as recent as 2011.
 
San Diego does indeed have a pair. A single bird can be found at the Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, ID.
