Orphaned or non-releasable wildlife

I know that zoos sometimes take in orphaned wildlife such as bears or permanently injured species such as eagles, but is it common for zoos to take in species such as orphaned deer? Also, do these animals move across state lines? For example, say there was an orphaned elk calf in Colorado and the Denver, Cheyenne Mountain, or Pueblo Zoos couldn't take it in, would they send it to the existing herd in the North Carolina Zoo, for example?

Apparently the Detroit Zoo has a deer that was taken in by a family as a pet after it was orphaned. I guess that qualifies? A number of zoos do have deer so I wouldn't be surprised if some were taken in after being injured or orphaned.
