Otzi the Iceman wore a zoo

An 5300 year old ice mummy found in the Italian mountains has had his clothes analyzed with mtDNA to determine what animals they were made from. It turns out that he had a multi-species fashion ensemble.

According to a study published Thursday in Nature Reports, Otzi was wearing at least five different animals when he met his maker. For now, the team has analyzed the mitochondrial DNA in his leggings (goat), loincloth (sheep), shoelace (cow leather), hat (brown bear), coat (sheep and goat) and quiver (roe deer).
