"Our Day Out" Zoo

Willy Russell wrote it for tv and it was first shown in 1977. The school was in Liverpool and the trip was to Conwy Castle in North Wales, so in theory, whichever zoo it was set in (or imaginary zoo) would be between the two. Someone will know where it was filmed, so in that sense it was set there but Willy Russell may not have had a particular zoo in mind when he wrote it.
 
it could be welsh mountain zoo or chester zoo
it has lions, a reptile house, childrens zoo, large open exhibits for ostrich,zebra etc and penguins
 
I think it was Welsh Mountain from memory... (having not seen the film for a few years I could be wrong though)

I am almost sure it wasn't Chester...

Pretty sure it was filmed at the Welsh Mountain Zoo
