A project, said to be a world first, is attempting to reintroduce the Temminck's ground pangolin to Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa where the species disappeared from seventy years ago.

The first pangolin, a female named Cory, has been released into the Manyoni Private Game Reserve. The release process can take several months, where the pangolins are walked out into the bush so that they can acclimatise and gain weight before they are fully released. All of the pangolins in this project will be rescues from the pangolin trade.
