Parken Zoo Parken Zoo news 2011

I fully enjoyed my visit to Parken Zoo in 2006 and it looks like it has turned into a zoo well worth revisiting over the last few years! Most of their really interesting species have been added since I last visited, such as the warty pigs, clouded leopards, cloud rats, drills, diana monkeys, L'Hoest's monkeys and giant otters, just to name a few.

However, I am glad I got to see the zoo when it was still a "diamond in the rough" and that I got to see the genets and African leopards when they still had those in the collection.
 
Also, some smaller changes since my last visit in February:

Most of the birds has been taken out of the collection, such as rhea, crowned-crane, marabou stork, Egyptian goose and cattle egret. Also the wildebeests has left the zoo.

You mean a reason why they left the zoo? Well, I don't know really, but for some years ago the park had a good collection of birds, now they mostly keep mammals and reptiles. It's a shame really, they should have more birds. About the wildebeests, the zoo wants to keep mostly rare species, that's just my guess. But they are now replaced with Eastern bongos.
 
I visited the zoo 28th July and I have some news.

The L'Hoest's monkeys are still not on show, they are still on the map but I couldn't find them, I'm not sure if they will come this season, I'll keep you updated on this.

The squirrel monkeys and the yellow-breasted capuchins has taken over the previously bird aviary (has been empty for some years now)

Four new squirrel monkeys has arrived to the zoo.

One of the wild dogs looked pregnant, I'm hoping for babies in the winter.

The former exhibit for yellow-breasted capuchins was now empty, and according to signs they are preparing the exhibit for new animals, don't know which species yet, but as the looks of the exhibit it will probably be something living in the trees, I'll keep you updated about new species.
