Parni the giant stingray was a former icon of Sea World Ancol. Although it was a freshwater species, Parni was caught by fishermen from Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The aquarium rescued Parni and placed in the main aquarium. Parni lived in the aquarium for nine years until it died in 2008 due to old age. Parni's body was preserved and placed in the Sea World's museum.

What species was this stingray? Freshwater whipray, or a marine species?

Are there any more U. polylepis kept in Indonesian aquariums? Singapore River Safari, some places in Thailand, and a botanical garden in Japan still keep this cool species.
