Peel Zoo Peel Zoo

Peel Zoo (now actually called Ranger Red’s Zoo and Conservation Park – what a mouthful) doesn’t get much attention on this forum but they are currently in the process of a sizeable upgrade and have been consistently acquiring new animals for the collection. Here are some of their new additions over the past year or so (all from their Facebook page):

*January 2020: a Carpet Python and a Stimson’s Python were donated to the zoo.

*February 2020: six Shinglebacks arrived at the zoo; three King’s Skinks (Egernia kingii) arrived

*March 2020: three Torresian Imperial Pigeons were introduced to their walkthrough aviary

*April 2020: a male Death Adder arrived from Armadale Reptile Park. It joined the zoo’s other elapids – a Dugite and Tiger Snake. They hope to create a new venomous snake display and are in the process of acquiring display animals for this new space; six Magnificent Tree Frogs arrived from Armadale Reptile Park and were later placed on-display in their gift shop area; four Cattle Egrets were also received from Featherdale Wildlife Park and now live in the main walkthrough aviary

*May 2020: three Euros (O. r. erubescens) arrived from a wildlife carer

*June 2020: eight Swamp Wallabies arrived from Cohunu Koala Park; new frog exhibits were opened in the gift shop; Buff-banded Rail arrived from Caversham Wildlife Park and were introduced to the glider enclosure; three Tasmanian Pademelons (Thylogale billardierii) arrived; they also hatched a Lesser Sooty Owl (Tyto multipunctata) chick around this time

*July 2020: three Barn Owls arrived from Eagles Heritage Wildlife Centre; a male Tasmanian Devil arrived from Ballarat Wildlife Park

*August 2020: the zoo welcomed their first Tasmanian Pademelon joey; an Australian Tarantula display was opened

*November 2020: a new Common Wombat arrived from Amazement Farm and Fun Park, NSW

*January 2021: three Brush-tailed Bettongs arrived from Caversham Wildlife Park

Future Plans:
*a video released in April 2020 showed a number of exhibit renovations in development - a former koala enclosure will be home to a group of Grey-headed Flying Foxes and an aviary upgrade was in the process for new bird species - Red-capped Robin (Petroica goodenovii), Inland Dotterel (Charadrius australis), Purple-crowned Lorikeet (Glossopsitta porphyrocephala), fairywrens and a few finch species.

*a news article shared in August 2020 also revealed some of the zoo’s future plans – Southern Cassowaries and Saltwater Crocodiles namely.

*Sugar Gliders are also arriving soon

G'day
Thought I'd introduce myself as I'am Red the owner or Redz Zoo.
We have had a lot of additions ,feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them for you.

Welcome to ZooChat @Red.

We have many other zoo owners on here (including a few Australian ones) and it’s always great to be able to chat directly to them about their collection and to give feedback etc.

Thanks for inviting us to submit questions. The number one question any ZooChatter will have is: Can we see a species list for your zoo?

It’s always fascinating to look over what a collection holds, beyond the information that can be gained through perusing the zoo’s website.

Cheers,

@Zoofan15

G'day Zoochat members earlier this year at the ASZK conference we were able to announce that within the next 3 years we are relocating.
We have found a property at Preston Beach which is 20minutes from our current location heading down South on the Forrest Hwy .
We are currently working through council regulations that need sough ting ,hopefully start surveying work in the start of 2025.
Its a 30hectare property so will see a range of new species ,café/reception Centre, vet clinic & onsite overnight accommodation.
Everything going to plan we expect to be open and expecting our first visit from the public within 3 years.
Thanks Red

@Red

That sounds so exciting, wow 30 hectares is gonna be amazing. All the best with the moving and transition and hoping the council regulations process isn't too arduous. Can't wait to hear about the next chapter and the new additions to your animal family.
