People Breaking the Rules at Zoos

On today’s episode of idiots at the zoo, I watched a man get his fingers bitten by a coscoroba swan at the Bronx Zoo after he tried to pet it multiple times.
I will say one of the Coscoroba Swans has seemed unusually aggressive recently, and appeared to be trying to bite me through the fence on several different visits (I didn’t even attempt to pet it!)

Some teens came in with some drives, removed the ones from our tvs and put in a bunch of their own. Also came up to me with one of our drives saying they found it in the trash, trying to get me to put it into the tv. Kid had a laptop, so who knows.
Everything was sent to the tech team asap and nothing negative happened as a result.

What does this have to do with people breaking rules at zoos?

Nope, the tv's all over the aquarium with information about animals-the information is contained in usb sticks. The teens replaced the USB sticks with some of their own

Lesson learned I guess, keep them out of reach or put some sort of protective thing over them so that can't happen :)

Witnessed the worst thing I have ever seen in a zoo on Tuesday at the Bronx Zoo: a large group of children and adults brought into the zoo with them several large bags of bananas in a calculated plan to feed the gelada baboons. Not only did they throw in a ridiculous amount of food, they threw them in plastic and all. The baboons were chewing on and tearing apart the plastic bags along with the bananas. Luckily, zoo staff came to the scene quickly. I was so dismayed. I can't believe how some people behave.

That is definitely the worst thing I’ve ever heard of someone doing at a zoo without death involved. It’s sad that people still treat zoo animals like they did 100 years ago- As something that is meant to entertain them. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen people disregard animals welfare for their own entertainment (banging on glass to get their attention, using flash photography, mimic their calls etc.) I wish there was an easy way to stop it.

When i was coming to the zoo la Palmyre (near of Royan, west of France) several years ago, many visitors feed herbivores (giraffes, zebras, bisons, goats and antelopes) with... popcorn. Unfortunatly, zoo staff did nothing.

But i don't know if visitors can feed animals with popcorn today in la Palmyre.

It's bad enough to throw in food, but to not even have the sense to remove the plastic is astounding.

Unfortunately like a lot of members, I have witnessed all of the usual bad behaviour, but the worst one was watching as a man lit a cigarette and passed it to a chimpanzee that was housed in a cage with dry straw in it. The man was no other than the zoo owner

I can't find words to express how disgusted I am by this...
At the time ,I was actually being interviewed for a job, he not only offered the cigarette to the fully grown chimp, but he also had the said chimp cage sharing with a fully grown Hamadryas baboon. I did find words, infact I really let rip. I was asked to leave in two words
