West Midland Safari and Leisure Park Personal vision

Jack being the white tiger? If so, damn :( Even if white tigers are somewhat unethical, he was still one of my childhood highlights whenever I visted the zoo (which was before they got any Amurs, I believe).

Yes Jack being the white tiger.

Regardless of my personal views on white tigers, he was popular with visitors and staff and will be greatly missed.

Anyway we've strayed of topic

Back to west midlands :)

Belfast Zoo is indeed a zoo with a great reputation exhibiting alot of very interesting and endangered species. I always felt the Barbary lions and white tiger for that reason were out of place. They have their role of ambasidors but it would be nice to see asiatic lions and perhaps sumatran or even indochinese tigers! I'd then replace the african wild dogs with either striped hyena or jackal and make it an asian carnivore theme. Again off the topic!

Great zoo easytigger, you are very lucky!

Colchester only have 1 white tiger because Sasha ate his mate Anna!

I dont think Colchester use Sasha as a 'draw' to the zoo hes just a part of it and a firm favourite for his grumpy personality! I think the fact hes a white tiger is irrelevant in their case.

We go to West Midlands as we enjoy it and it has a very varied drive thro, the white lions and tigers are always clogged with cars!
The way things are going, with people cutting back on days out, surely whatever draws people in and keeps the zoo going is what matters for the good of all the captive animals in them.

yes i see your point but we could inbreed any number of natural oddities to attract and wow the public, the question we have to ask ourselves as animal lovers and people interested in conservation is this morally right? The animals themselves often have health problems as a result of inbreeding. White tigers may draw people but they are not a true represenation of a wild tiger. Countless times ive heard people comment, letssee the snow tiger or the siberian tiger when looking at a white tiger. Do you think if each white tiger in a zoo or safari park had interpretation explaining how inbred they are and the only reason they are existing today is for mans enjoyment that the public would still agree with them? other sub-species have endured thousands of years evolving in the wild in various habitats now to be eradicated by man for various reasons. Can we morally let other sub-species die out due to the fact so much space in captivity is being taken up with these mutants??? I certainly dont think its right! Anyway that was abit heavy going but i think we all need to sit down and really think about thr real reason for modern zoos other than the wow factor.....

I think the leopard enclosure should be enlarged and the sea lion pool should also be made bigger and hopefully add a few more sealions. In the area by the leopards and sealions, exhibits for penguins, meerkats and prairie dogs could be introduced on the patches of area there, get rid of the stupid amusement stalls and one of the shops, preferably the greenhouse one, the rest of the lake should also be opened up to the hippos.

I would really like to see Bongos in the Safari Park aswell as a drive through monkey enclousre being reintroduced. The number of elephants should be increased, and likewise the exhibit, the idea about bringing in pregnant cows was good.

how about having the road right at the end of the elephant paddok so there is a larger paddock
