Since yesterday, a 3-years old tame puma is running loose in west Czechia, around village Josefov. It escaped from a local keeper. Both firefighters, police and vets are searching for it. They tried to put it asleep twice, first time the dart had not enough drug, second time the dart missed the animal.
The animal has been kept illegaly (not registered properly). It was obtained from legal breeder and the enclosure is in line with local regulations according to governmental vet. Local government started a processing in this case in March 2025 already but it was not closed yet.
The puma is tame. The village mayor spoke with journalists - all local people know the animal well. The owner took it out on regular walks in streets on leash. Locals are not worried about the situation not even the kids.
While I think that before yesterday, this case could be solved by some sort of hefty fine but the animal might be let in ownership of its keeper. After this escape, I guess it would get seized by authorities. So if anybody wants a puma (and has ability to keep it legal fe has zoo licence or similar)....
