I have visited the Phuket Zoo in the south of Thailand twice. It is a truly awful place that is geared up to milking every last Baht from a gullible public. They are making money too...tons of it. There is absolutely no reason for the animals to be kept as they are here. It is a very popular collection with tourists.
There does not appear to be any sort of expertise here.

Thanks again Peter for shining a spotlight on the horrendous zoos of Thailand. That photo with the orangutan is one of the saddest things I've seen in a long time.
