Hi Guys

Does anyone out there know of any pigtailed macaques living in new zealand?

I know of two pure breds a male and female at the franklin zoo and a cross bred female at Poukai zoo
So does any one know of any others living in new zealand currently

Hi , its Fiona here from Pouakai Zoo, yes we still have our female Pigtailed Macaque here...Belinda and shes doing well, quite fond of Peanuts at the moment :)

I have just gone through all Belindas records and as far as we can see she is a purebred..not sure why anyone would think she is a crossbred??? She does get "cross" though..haha

Well Belinda wouldnt really like that to much...she has been on her own for quite some time ( approx 11 years ) she gets spoilt rotten and still dosent like anyone! She arrived here "very angry" (according to records) back in 1996. She was born in 1975 at North Brighton Zoo. We have been visited by Helen from Franklin Zoo and we went to meet Helen at the zoo in August, had a great visit and got loads of ideas and hope to get there again soon. We do not belong to ARAZPA so its differcult to exchange animals.

No she did not have a "bad life!"...just like humans you get the odd grumpy monkey..we cant all be rosey all the time.
We have a large collection of primates, a lion pride, Zebra, Meerkats, Bobcats (note: franklin zoos bobcats came from this zoo) plus many birds, farm animals and our reptile collection grows monthly because I keep buying more and more. We also have Lemur,Wallaby and I am also getting a fine collection of cattle. Musnt forget the donkeys, llama, alpaca, chinchillas. We also have the largest fish tanks in the area...1500litres!..the list goes on and on really!

I am the owners wife to be.. :) work at the Zoo full time with him.
We sadly lost our male bobcat, so have mother and daughter left, we are working hard to get a male. Our Zebra 'Rafiki' is a male and around 25 years old. We know Franklin Zoo now has Zebras ..and before you ask our Zebra will not be leaving Pouakai, as I said before we are not an ARAZPA institue.
Thanks

Sweet as ...we would love to work in with other Zoos but ARAZPA makes it trickey so we are in the process of aquiring animals from breeders overseas.
The female Bobcat is not from the same litter as Franklins Zoos...but has the same Parents. Be sure to check out our new website Pouakai Zoo | NewPlymouth | Get up close with our animals.
and the next time your down our way..ask for me (Fiona) and I will give you a walk around.

Hi Childonias,
yeah not sure what happened to 'duma' :)
according to records the Bobcats were purchased from Moana Zoo in the South Island as a breeding pair.
Thanks
Fiona

ah, then perhaps the North Brighton bobcats went to Moana Zoo (which is now also closed down). I don't think Bill Grey ever bred his bobcats (it certainly wouldn't seem likely in the tiny cage they had) but perhaps they were still young enough when the zoo closed down to do so at another zoo.
