I will be in Denver next week for an unrelated event and we happened to book our stay fairly close to the Denver Zoo, so I have convinced a friend of mine at the same event that it would be worth our time to go there. I am pretty excited; besides a glance through the website this is a fairly blind trip to a new zoo for me.

Elephant Passage and the Primate House are the two big priorities, with aye-ayes one of the main unique species I'd like to see -- also hoping to see bighorn and cape buffalo. My friend is interested in elephants and big cats as he has not been to a zoo in much much longer than me. I'm coming from Chicago so any species not present in LPZ or BZ's collections are a plus!

I'm looking for any advice about the facility and what exhibits may be best to check out, or tips on when to be by certain species? Thanks in advance.

Indian Rhinoceros and Nile Hippopotamus are both must-see animals, and there aren't any at both Lincoln Park Zoo and Brookfield Zoo. The 3 Indian Rhinos are in Toyota Elephant Passage, while the Nile Hippo can be found in the Pachyderm Habitat.

Try to fit in the aquarium, too! It's open much later than zoo. It's bigger than you'd expect. I visited during a few hours between flights. There was no way to make the zoo work, but the aquarium's later hours worked in my favor.

Part of my excitement for Elephant Passage is also the Indian Rhinos and Malayan Tapirs -- very excited to see all three pachyderms.Definitely hoping to stop by the hippos as well.

@TinoPup Thank you for the tip! I'll keep that in mind if there's extra time Friday. I know nothing of the Denver Aquarium I must admit.

I really hope you like the Denver Zoo! There is a baby Golden Lion Tamarin in the same building as the aye aye’s and a baby otter in a reddish- orange building near the elephants.
