San Diego Zoo Planning a trip to the zoo and hoping for some insight

I am planning a trip to both the San Diego Zoo and the wildlife park this fall or next spring. I have never been to either location or the city before, and I was hoping for some advice on how to tackle the zoo. How long does it take? Should I give it more than one day? What are must sees?

I am also looking for a complete list of species since I have read there are 800 species at the zoo but can only find lists with 200 or so tops.

Any information you could give would be wonderful! Thanks.

For the Zoo, I took a bus tour first thing to cover some areas like Urban Jungle, Elephant Odyssey, and Africa Rocks. After that, I went to Panda Trek, Lost Forest, Sun Bear Trail, Polar Bear Plunge, Reptiles, etc. by foot.

As for the Safari Park, I would tackle it in a counter-clockwise direction.

Both of my reviews state the exhibits in the order I visited at the establishments.
