I have been to the Pocatello Zoo a few times. The entire collection is native to Idaho. As of my last visit, the carnivore cages were quite depressing, but they are working hard at fixing their woes with the goal of AZA accreditation. The zoo is built on the edge of a basalt plateau, so they have a great location. The plan is to display grassland animals (bison, white-tailed deer, pronghorn, etc...) on the plateau, mountain animals (bighorn sheep, rocky mountain goats, etc..) on the cliff face, and woodland animals (moose, mule deer, etc...) in the park below. The plans for the grizzly exhibit look impressive, especially when compared to their concrete and steel grizzly enclosure now.

On the future of the zoo, Pocatello is a VERY small town and the zoo is accordingly small. The state-of-the-art grizzly exhibit would probably help keep them afloat, but without it they will surely dwindle into obscurity (locals still largely travel to nearby Idaho Falls to go to the Tautphaus Park Zoo)
