Polar bears

A quick count on ISIS shows that 34 zoos in North America have polar bears, and in reality there might be more that simply do not register with the ISIS website. Of those 34 zoos, 26 of them keep more than one polar bear and many zoos have multiple numbers of bears.

alot of zoos keep upwards of 4, 5 or 6 polar bears

@ snowleopard - ISIS is fairly correct when it comes to Polar Bears, there are only a few inconsistencies I noticed.

do they only put one on exhibit at a time maybe because ive only seen one in the bronx zoo and one in lincoln park

Some zoos exhibit them alone because these animals are solitary - in zoos we try to replicate the wild as much as possible. Most zoos rotate their polar bears while other zoos keep relatives (i.e. - brothers) or breeding groups together. It also depends on the capacity of the exhibit. At Bronx, there is only adequate space for one, however, at Detroit there is room for at least three bears.
