Port Lympne Wild Animal Park Port Lympne Wild Animal Park news 2020

Some interesting news on social media....

There are now plans to build new enclosures to re-home 6 brown bears
(3 adults & 3 cubs)from an adventure park in Andorra that will soon be closing their zoo.

They're also aiming to re-home 3:0 lions that have been rescued from a circus in France. One of the lions has a "serious health condition that will require specialist treatment for the rest of his life"

Hopefully they will be successful but this will be a huge ask moneywise

Wondered if anyone knew where the amur leopards are on the site ? Are they in the carnivore section ?

I couldn’t say if this is the enclosure they’re in - but there appeared to be a big cat enclosure being built near(ish) to the spectacled bears when I last visited the zoo back in February. It seemed to be in an area of the safari that is inaccessible to the trucks and therefore visitors.

I thought they were in an open topped enclosure on the closed off path just up the hill from the Bush dogs, right hand side, next to one of the old elephant paddocks?

Could be - I just remember them being in that general area...don’t visit Port Lympne enough to know its geography well.

Is the new accommodation lining this area or moving them to a new place?

What ancestry these Andorran bears (Pyrenean?, if so highly endangered ...)?

Anything interesting or noteworthy to report lately on Port Lympne and animals born of various species. It seems now that there is a kind of stalemate, or is that just my impression?

Announced on social media that lioness Oudrika is
"showing signs of being pregnant and believed to be due in the near future".

There will be a live camera so hopefully people can watch the potential birth as it happens running 24/7 on the YouTube channel.

'The Lioness formerly known as...'(I forget what...)

Didn't she have 3 cubs a year or two back which presumably are still there?- so another litter would see a definite build-up of their Lions again. Plus three more are expected as 'rescues' I believe.

Am i supposed to be approving the consecutive breeding of such a young lioness ‍♀️ with youngsters still present. Such a questionable time period between litters. It’s also reckless long term as there is a massive surplus of young male cubs in the UK and as the male is ageing it jeopardises introductions of any prospective new male for at least three years. Typically i sing the praises of this facility but i’m disappointed at this apparent lack of management.

I believe she was originally called Lilly and came with another cub called Ginny ?

Given the short birth interval I suspect this may have been an unplanned pregnancy somehow.
