Prepare To Be Quoted

The link below has a 65-page document attached to it, and there are a number of quotes taken from the ZooChat website. Several are attributed to me, and I just want to point out to members here that the internet is a mammoth pool of information and it is perfectly legal for quotations produced here to be replicated or copied and pasted elsewhere. I have no problem with this as I firmly believe in the freedom of speech, and if comments that I have made help promote a good cause then I am elated. I have often verbally bashed Edmonton's Valley Zoo, and in particular its disastrous treatment of its solitary elephant, and thus finally public opinion is beginning to sway the zoo to make a decision to move Lucy away from the bitterly cold winters found in that northern zoo. Criticism works, as it did with Maggie the elephant at the Alaska Zoo, orcas in their tiny pool at the Vancouver Aquarium, and countless other examples.

Hmm, somewhat ironic that a public quotation from Zoochat should be made by zoocheck! What were they doing on here I wonder?

They don't need to come here. That's what Google is for. Do a search on something you've discussed and Google will bring you here to your posting.

OK, now you made me go look at the Zoocheck site - which I'd never seen before. And when I saw the statement
The incident showed the lack of the facility’s lack of emergency procedures, said ZooCheck Canada’s Julie Woodyear.
I had to close the window. I do not know what language this person is speaking

I do believe in free speech too,it is the greater good.

However, what if those quoting have hidden agendas and or misrepresent your quotations? I myself might be criticising some zoo for animal welfare reasons hoping for some kind of upgrade ... however, that does not mean I then condone others to simply paste up my comments into shuttling off a lone elephant to a sanctuary (which I intrinsically believe do not satisfy my beliefs on elephant management nor conservation). I would feel "used and abused".

Any legal wrangle here, don't you think?

@ Bwana, not sure of the law in Holland but in NZ you can sue someone for defamation, it is quite hard to win a case though, takes forever and is very expensive..!

Expressing oneself widely and competently is very important and the influence you can have is amazing... So many people are not able or willing to make their voices heard, it is why politicans in the free world these days are getting away with murder...

I regularly call talkback, e-mail Members of Parliament and Local Councillors. The feedback I get and the amount of people I know who comment about what I've said on the radio is astounding... The secret I find though is to pick your battles, stick to a subject you are knowledgable or passionate (or both) about...
